June 27-29, Berkeley, California

Organizations serving the LGBT Jewish community and advocating for diversity and inclusion in the Jewish world are diverse and growing in numbers.  After nearly forty years of activism, we are pleased to be convening the first-ever LGBT Jewish Movement Building conference, June 27-29, 2010, in Berkeley, California.

The conference will consist of four parts:

1.  A national gathering of
senior leaders of LGBT synagogues, and national and local LGBT Jewish organizations, as well as representatives of key foundations and organizations working throughout the United States to build a more inclusive Jewish community. This two-day event will be a working conference with a full agenda of collaboration, coordination, and capacity-building.  What are our objectives as a movement?  How can we work better to achieve them?  How do we serve the needs of the LGBT Jewish community, and speak effectively on the national stage?

2.  A gathering of Bay Area Jewish professionals, activists, rabbis, and lay leaders working on behalf of the LGBT Jewish community.  This Monday afternoon conference will be focused on local community needs and capacities, and on sharing best practices and common experiences with our national retreat participants.

3.  A roundtable of funders of LGBT Jewish causes to discuss strategy and improve collaboration in the field.

4.  Public events open to all, including special San Francisco Pride Weekend celebrations, such as Pride Shabbat at Congregation Sha'ar Zahav and a keynote address on June 28 from Stuart Milk, LGBT rights activist and nephew of Harvey Milk z"l.
