Funders roundtable

An essential part of the Movement-Building Retreat is a funders' roundtable, convened by the leadership of three foundations that have long supported more inclusive communities. The roundtable will be made up of individuals, foundations, and organizations with an interest in diversity, inclusion, and LGBT issues in the Jewish community.  Here is the official Invitation to Donors, Foundation Staff and Trustees:

On behalf of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund and the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, it is our pleasure to invite donors, foundation professionals and foundation trustees to join a Funders’ Roundtable addressing diversity, inclusion and LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) life in the Jewish community. The invitation-only roundtable will take place:

Monday, June 28, 2010
12 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Berkeley, California (contact Shannon Oliver for location - see email address below)

We have planned this gathering to coincide with the first-ever LGBT Jewish Movement Building Convening, to be held June 27-29, 2010, in Berkeley, California. Organized by Jewish Mosaic, Keshet, Nehirim and the National Union of LGBT Students, this convening will build on several years of work to expand significantly the capacity and reach of the leading national Jewish LGBT organizations and to foster a more welcoming and inclusive Jewish community. Nearly 100 leaders of LGBT synagogues, national and local LGBT Jewish organizations, and devoted individuals, foundations and organizations will gather together to identify, explore and develop specific strategies for building a strong LGBT Jewish movement.

We hope you will join us for the donor and foundation representative roundtable.  In addition to devoting the morning to participation in the larger convening, our expectation is that we will:

  • Reflect on the work that has been done to advance diversity and inclusive practices within the Jewish community, specifically around LGBT life;
  • Examine trends in Jewish LGBT engagement efforts;
  • Explore the needs as articulated by the Convening participants and leadership, as well as address strategies and a vision for moving forward; and
  • Identify opportunities for funder action and collaboration.
Kindly let us know if you are able to attend by contacting Shannon Oliver at soliver (at) schusterman.org by Friday, April 30, 2010. For those of you traveling from out of town, we have a room block reserved at a nearby hotel and will provide details upon request.

We appreciate your interest and look forward to seeing you on June 28!

Warm regards,

  • Lisa B. Eisen, National Director, Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation
  • Dr. Debbie Findling, Deputy Director, Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund
  • Stephanie Rapp, Senior Program Officer, Walter and Elise Haas Fund
